MCSD 1:1 Student Technology Plan
Technology quickly became front and center during the COVID-19 pandemic as it was literally the lifeline between home and school. A 1:1 model for technology will continue since technology allows students to access a wealth of educational resources, use collaborative tools, and access the state mandated testing system. Providing 1:1 technology also ensures that all students have equitable access to devices while at home to support the completion of homework assignments and special projects. We see value in technology. We also highly value instruction and learning experiences that do not include technology but want to make certain that when needed, current operating systems are ready to support instruction for all students.
Beginning in 3rd grade, all students will receive a new current generation Chromebook that can be taken home throughout the school year as well as during the summer! This Chromebook is meant to last until the student graduates 8th grade from our district at which point the Chromebook would have been designated obsolete(for state testing) and we would surplus it, thus allowing the student to keep the Chromebook to use as they see fit.
Students in kindergarten all have access to classroom iPads where we have enough for every student to be on one as lesson plans require. At the 1st grade level we have full classroom sets of touchscreen Chromebooks. Finally, at 2nd grade we also have full classroom sets of non touchscreen Chromebooks as we transition students away from touch screens.
Thank you to our Home and School Clubs and Can Do! for partnering with the Miller Creek School District to provide every student with an updated device.
